01 — Scope
Who this policy applies to
This privacy policy applies to the Android application ClearOut. It explains what ClearOut may access on your device, why that access is needed, what the app stores locally, and how Google Play purchases and permissions work.
Unless otherwise stated, references to “ClearOut”, “we”, “our”, or “us” mean the publisher of the app, ittoolkit.
02 — Information used by the app
What ClearOut may access on your device
ClearOut needs limited on-device access to provide features such as screenshot review, similar-photo and duplicate-like image review, large-file discovery, inactive app review, notification insights, storage insights, and optional Pro unlocks through Google Play. The app is designed to work without ads, without tracking profiles, and without sending your scan results, media files, or app review results to a ClearOut backend for our own services.
| Category | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Photos, screenshots, and images | Used to identify screenshots, similar shots, duplicate-like images, and other low-value image clutter and present them for your review on-device. |
| Videos | Used to identify large video files and other media items that may be taking up storage space. |
| Audio files | Used to identify large audio files stored on the device where supported by Android permissions. |
| App usage and screen-time information | Used, where you manually enable usage access in Android settings, to estimate inactive apps and show screen-time insights such as last-opened times and app usage over the last 7 days. |
| Notification activity by app | Used, where you manually enable notification access in Android settings, to count which apps send the most alerts so ClearOut can show notification insights. ClearOut is designed to count alerts by app rather than persist notification message content. |
| Installed app information | Used only for limited, user-facing app review features such as inactive app suggestions and app storage insights, where supported by Android. ClearOut uses Android’s limited package visibility rules and focuses on launchable, user-facing apps rather than requesting broad visibility of all installed packages. |
| Storage usage statistics and local snapshots | Used to show storage trends, recent scan summaries, and optional storage forecast features inside the app. |
| Purchase status | Used to determine whether Pro features should be unlocked following a Google Play purchase, such as a one-time Pro upgrade where configured. |
03 — What ClearOut does not do
What we do not collect or use for our own services
ClearOut is not an advertising platform, social network, or cloud storage service. Core app use does not require you to create a ClearOut account.
Important
We do not use ClearOut to sell or share personal data, build advertising profiles, or send your scan results, media files, or notification counts to our own external servers. For users in California: ClearOut does not sell or share personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). Google Play and related Google services may process purchase, licensing, update, and review interactions under their own policies.
04 — Permissions
Permissions and special access used by ClearOut
Android requires explicit permissions or special settings access for some features. ClearOut requests only the permissions needed to provide the specific features described below.
-
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO / READ_MEDIA_AUDIOUsed on supported Android versions to access media needed for screenshot review, duplicate-like photo detection, large media/file review, and similar user-confirmed cleanup functions.
-
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGEUsed on older Android versions where this permission is still required for media access.
-
POST_NOTIFICATIONSUsed to send optional notifications such as weekly storage reports or reminders, if you choose to enable them.
-
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATSUsed, where you manually enable usage access in Android settings, to estimate inactive apps and show app-usage insights provided by the Android system.
-
BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICEUsed, where you manually enable notification access in Android settings, to support notification insights by app. ClearOut is designed to use this access for app-level alert counting rather than persisting notification contents.
-
VIBRATEUsed only for light haptic feedback in the interface where supported.
-
com.android.vending.BILLINGUsed to support Google Play purchases, entitlement checks, and restoration of Pro access.
Important note about app visibility: ClearOut focuses on launchable, user-facing apps and does not request broad visibility of all installed packages. App-related insights are used only to support user-facing review features such as inactive-app suggestions and storage insights.
No permission is requested for tracking, advertising, or any purpose beyond the feature reasonably associated with that permission.
05 — Local storage
What ClearOut stores locally on your device
ClearOut stores a limited amount of information locally so features work properly and your preferences can be remembered between sessions.
| Stored item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Purchase and Pro status | Used to remember whether Pro features should be available after a Google Play purchase check. |
| Recent scan timestamps | Used to display when you last scanned and improve the app experience. |
| Recent storage snapshots and scan summaries | Used for storage trend calculations, fill-rate estimates, recent storage summaries, and in-app storage forecast features. |
| Notification preferences | Used to remember whether optional app notifications or reminders are enabled or disabled. |
| Ignore lists, cleanup exclusions, and onboarding flags | Used to avoid showing items again when you have chosen to ignore them and to remember certain setup or onboarding states. |
| Settings flags and app preferences | Used to remember whether onboarding has been completed and whether certain app options have already been shown or enabled. |
This information is stored locally within the app environment on your device. In most cases, it is removed when you uninstall the app, although some records controlled by Android or Google Play may be governed by those services instead.
06 — Purchases and Google Play
How purchases work
ClearOut may offer paid features through Google Play, such as a one-time Pro upgrade where configured. All payment processing, billing, refunds where available, purchase management, and related account handling are provided by Google Play and related Google services.
We do not receive or store your full payment card details through ClearOut. Product availability, pricing, and any refund options may vary by market and by the products configured in Google Play Console.
If you purchase ClearOut Pro, the app may store a local entitlement flag or similar status information so Pro access can remain available without requiring repeated purchase checks every time you open the app.
07 — Sharing and disclosures
When information may be shared
We do not operate a ClearOut backend that receives your scan results, media files, notification contents, or app review results for our own services.
However, certain functions necessarily involve platform providers. For example, purchases, licensing, update delivery, store listing interactions, and in-app review flows may involve Google Play or related Google services (operated by Google LLC, based in the United States), which operate under their own legal terms and privacy documentation. For users in Australia: this constitutes disclosure of information to an overseas recipient, and that recipient operates under its own privacy framework.
We may also disclose information where required by applicable law, regulation, court order, or lawful governmental request.
08 — Your controls
Your choices and controls
You can control ClearOut’s access and behaviour in several ways.
| Control | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Permissions | Grant, deny, or revoke runtime permissions in Android settings. |
| Special access | Enable or disable usage access and notification access in Android settings. |
| Notifications | Turn optional reminders or status notifications on or off in ClearOut or in system settings. |
| Local data | Uninstalling the app generally removes its locally stored app data from the device. |
09 — Children
Children’s privacy
ClearOut is not directed specifically at children. We do not knowingly use ClearOut to collect personal data from children for our own backend services.
If you believe there is a privacy issue involving a child’s use of the app, contact us and we will review the concern promptly.
10 — Data protection
Data protection information
For users in the United Kingdom and, where applicable, the European Economic Area, ittoolkit acts as the controller of any personal data processed by us through ClearOut. Because ClearOut is designed to operate locally and we do not run our own ClearOut backend for scan data, the amount of personal data processed by us directly is limited.
Where processing occurs, it is generally carried out because it is necessary to provide the app you have chosen to use, to comply with legal obligations, or for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and supporting the app in a proportionate way.
This policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Data retention: locally stored app data (scan snapshots, preferences, ignore lists) is retained on your device until you uninstall the app. No scan results or media files are retained on our own servers because we do not operate a backend that receives them. Purchase entitlement records held by Google Play are subject to Google's own retention policies.
The publisher contact for data protection enquiries is reachable at the address listed in Section 12.
10a — Your rights
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have rights in relation to personal data. Because ClearOut processes very limited personal data directly (the app operates locally and we do not maintain a backend that stores your scan results), many of these rights may have limited practical application. Where they do apply, we will respond to valid requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.
| Right | What it means |
|---|---|
| Access | You may request confirmation of whether we hold personal data about you and, if so, a copy of it. |
| Correction / Rectification | You may ask us to correct inaccurate personal data we hold about you. |
| Erasure / Deletion | You may ask us to delete personal data we hold about you, subject to applicable legal requirements. Locally stored app data can be removed immediately by uninstalling the app. |
| Portability | Where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means, you may request a machine-readable copy of data you have provided. |
| Objection / Opt-out | You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also withdraw consent at any time where processing is consent-based, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing. |
| Restriction | In certain circumstances you may ask us to restrict how we use your personal data while a concern is being resolved. |
| Do not sell or share (California) | California residents may direct us not to sell or share their personal information. ClearOut does not sell or share personal information, so no opt-out action is required, but you may contact us to confirm this at any time. |
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We may need to verify your identity before responding. UK and EEA users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority — for UK users this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
11 — Policy changes
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to ClearOut, legal requirements, or platform rules. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date shown on this page.
Continued use of ClearOut after an updated policy takes effect means you acknowledge the revised version.
